Ya’ll it looks like I am too lazy to post here these days, so for now please enjoy my Instgram feed.
So...there's a piece of public artwork in my neighborhood that has ALWAYS rubbed me the wrong way. Reason #1 is that there was a sizeable-budget open call for original work preferring proposals from the neighborhood for the site that I kept waiting to see the results of and then this work appeared--work by an artist from well outside of Boston, commissioned for elsewhere in the city and then relocated here when the first site was done with it. Reason #2 is that it is banal: it felt like I was being forced to read a Hallmark card that someone had smeared across several city blocks. Every day. Lately though, it's been growing on me. No one official monitors its condition and it's been altered regularly to reflect interesting neighborhood facts, such as how happy and healthy our rat population is getting. Tonight, seeing its newest iteration perfectly placed to be lit up by car headlights all night long, I feel like we finally have the meaningful peice of locally produced artwork we deserved all along...⚡⚡
