Forgetting the Year explores the strange confusion that many of us experienced in 2021 when trying to talk to each other about “last year”. Especially before Corona restrictions began to lift, it was common for people to get confused in conversations about whether “last year” meant 2019 or 2020.
Forgetting the Year collects together our individual experiences of time being distorted by pandemic conditions and translates them into shareable shapes and textures, as well as a live, immersive soundscape produced by the collective actions of the group.
The images are used as the basis of a unique, limited edition “calendar” (all participants receive a copy) that expresses a collective sense of how time has shifted and blurred and stands as a symbol for our shared knowledge that a year is not a fixed unit, while celebrating our capacity to find new language, and perhaps new values together.
Forgetting the Year was produced by ET4U in Ramme, DK in October 2021 as a part of their TANKEN program.
